Pay-TV: Nigerians eagerly wait to subscribe to TStv

The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) says Nigerians are eagerly waiting to subscribe to the services of the new pay-TV, Telecom Satellite television (TStv).

The President of NATCOMS, Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo told our correspondent on Wednesday in Lagos that pay-tv subscribers were yet to know the locations of the dealers of TStv to subscribe to its services.

Ogunbanjo said that the arrival of TStv into the pay-tv arena was a good development for Nigerians.

He said that TStv had brought a revolution into the Nigerian cable television industry.

According to him, the days of monopoly by DSTV and Startimes that have refused to embrace the pay-as-you-go subscription for cable television is over.

“TStv should educate Nigerians of where its dealers are. They should start promoting their dealers on television and radio.

“Nigeria should look at those exclusive rights being enjoyed by DSTV. Consumers should go to the extent of appealing to the premier league to ensure that they accommodate other pay-tv companies.

“There should be a rethink from the organisers of these championships to avoid monopoly of broadcast,” he said.

Mr Ephraim Achonu, a businessman said that he was excited to hear about the new pay-tv.

Achonu said that he was ready to change his Gotv subscription to TStv, since the company would be offering pay-per-view service.

“If I can pay only for when I watch the cable television and not a compulsory one month payment, that will be nice,” he said

Mr David Ezemara, a businessman said that he hoped the services of TStv would be better than the pay-tv companies already in the country.

Ezemara urged TStv management to ensure the company kept its promises to subscribers.

It was reported that TStv was officially launched in Nigeria on Oct. 1, but the commercial launching will be in November.

Some Nigerians hail the idea of Oct. 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day as rollout date, saying that the development signified freedom from existing pay-tv providers such as DStv, GOtv, StarTimes, MyTv, Joy Tv, among others.

Basically, there are three unique features to get from TStv – pay-as-you-watch, Wi-Fi and video conferencing.

The decoder, also known as Set Top Box (STB)) and dish will be available for just N5, 000 and comes with numerous features.
