Gbajabiamila inaugurates new RTEAN motor park in Ojuelegba
The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday inaugurated a new Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) motor park in the popular Ojuelegba area of Surulere in Lagos.
Inaugurating the park, which is named after him, Gbajabiamila urged members of the association to put it into good use, and to shun acts that could undermine peace.
He said that he played a role in facilitating the project in redemption of his electoral promise to always make life better for his constituents.
Gbajabiamila commended the RTEAN for the support they had given him over the years and the actualisation of the project.
“You have always supported me and I think our relationship started years back.
“I am part of you and I thank you for the opportunity given to me to serve you,” he said.
The Majority Leader said he was able to facilitate the new park after several interventionist missions to the state government, which led to its approval.
He described the chairman of the association as a committed leader who never joked with the progress of the group.
Gbajabiamila promised to continue to work with RTEAN for the progress of the association and betterment of its members.
Our correspondent reports that Gbajabiamila announced additional donation of N1million at the inauguration for the immediate operations of the park.
The state chairman of the RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Muhammed, announced the naming of the park after Gbajabiamila at the inauguration, saying the gesture is in appreciation of the lawmaker’s efforts in facilitating it for the association.
Mohammed said the association had been using the space under the Ojuelegba flyover as its motor park before the new one.
The chairman explained that the state government had asked the association to vacate the old park to pave way for a beautification project.
“The decision of the state government to use the old park for a development project left us with nowhere to go until the intervention of the Majority Leader.
“He was able to secure this prime place for us after he consistently interfaced with the state government.
“Apart from that, he gave N1million to put things in shape here. We are grateful to him, and that is why we are naming this park after him to demonstrate our gratitude,” he said.
Mohammed promised that the 20,000 man strong state branch of the association would support whatever political aspirations Gbajabiamila might want to pursue in 2019.
He described the lawmaker as a leader who had done a lot for his Surulere 1 constituency.
In his remarks, the Acting Commissioner of Transportation, Mr Anofiu Elegushi said the state government was committed to the development of the state.
Represented by Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business District, Mr Agboola Dabiri said the approval of the park was a demonstration of the commitment.
He urged the members of RTEAN to put the park into good use and abide by the laws of the state.
The lawmaker representing Surulere 1 state constituency, Mr Desmond Elliot commended Gbajabiamiala for his efforts.
He said the new park would not only enable RTEAN to conduct its business conveniently, but also safely.
The chairman of RTEAN, Ojuelegba branch, Mr Sunday Aransinola, also commended Gbajabiamila for the intervention, saying but for his efforts, members would have had nowhere to go.
He promised that the association would put the park into good use and abide by the state’s laws.
