Parents, guardians contribute to high rate of examination malpractice – Lawmaker
A federal lawmaker, Sen. Obinna Ogba, on Thursday said parents and guardians contribute to the increasing rate of examination malpractice in the country.
Ogba said this on the sideline of the opening ceremony of a two-day International Summit on Examination Malpractice by the West African Examinations Council.
The theme of the summit is: “Examination Malpractice; The Contemporary Realities and Antidotes.’’
According to him, some parents, in their quest for automatic placement of their children into tertiary schools, engage in acts which lead to an increase in the vice.
“They mount all sorts of pressures on the examiners and the supervisors in order to have their children cheat during examination in one form or the other,’’ he said
Ogba said that the moment parents and guardians desist from such acts, the issue of malpractice would be brought to almost a zero level.
“If this is not tackled, we can keep holding this kind of summit from now till eternity all to no avail.
“This is a war that all of us must fight. Our appeal is for our parents to have a rethink and desist from this act in order to bring an end to the menace,’’ he said.
