Premier League Trophy departs after thrilling MultiChoice subscribers in Lagos

The Premier League Trophy which was brought by Multichoice, owners of DStv and GOtv for a tour of Lagos departed on Monday after series of thrilling events for the company’s subscribers and football fans.

Our correspondent reports that during the acclaimed Trophy Tour, it visited MultiChoice offices, media houses and was hosted by the Nigerian Minister of Sports, Somon Dalung, before ending it last Saturday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

While at the stadium, lucky DStv and GOtv subscribers gathered to see the famed trophy and also watched live Premier League matches.

The General Manager, Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria, Martin Mabutho, said at the event: “We continue to take pride in providing the very best and exclusive sports content and experiences to our viewers.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many people to see the Premier League trophy and take pictures close and personal.

“Every year we see various clubs fighting to lift this trophy and not many people, even Premier League players, ever get the opportunity to come this close.

“We are delighted to have brought the trophy to Nigeria and are thrilled to also have none other than ex-international Jay Jay Okocha accompanying it on its tour.’’

The Premier League Trophy was also on full display at the MultiChoice Ikeja office on Sunday, providing even more opportunities for DStv and GOtv subscribers to see and experience it firsthand.

It was reported that at the National Stadium, Surulere, the MultiChoice Premier League Trophy Tour legend, erstwhile Bolton FC and Super Eagles Captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha took part in football matches as part of the MultiChoice “Let’s Play’’ initiative to promote healthy living among children.

The live matches watched by subscribers and fans at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, under the watchful eyes of the Premier League officials, was between Manchester United versus Tottenham Hotspur which ended 1-0 in favour of the former.

Also, Arsenal defeated Swansea 2-1, with Jay Jay Okocha providing guest commentary alongside the SuperSport hosts.
