Don’t tamper with our meters, equipment, Eko Disco warns consumers
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Wednesday warned consumers not to tamper with its meters, equipment and other installations in their areas.
Mr Godwin Idemudia, the EKEDC General Manager, Corporate Communications Unit, gave the warning in an interview with our reporter in Lagos.
According to Idemudia, any act of infraction will be met with still penalty.
“Enough is enough; Eko Disco will no longer tolerate this act of illegal tampering of our equipment and electrical installations.
“Tampering with Eko Disco meters, installations, distribution lines, equipment or assault on any field worker will attract jail term.
“The management of EKEDC will no longer handle these actions with kid glove; this is no empty threat.
“If you disregard this warning, you do so at your own risk,” he said.
Idemudia also decried the increasing number of violent attacks on EKEDC personnel while performing their lawful duties.
He said that field workers were often attacked by aggrieved customers on matters which were completely beyond their control as workers of a distribution company.
“Assault on any EKEDC personnel on duty is an act of sabotage and will be strongly resisted,” said Idemudia.
He called on members of the public and its customers to be vigilant and report any act of sabotage to the nearest law enforcement agencies or call EKEDC Customers Care Centre on 07080655555.
