Eagles in Rabat for World Cup qualifier, Mikel expected Tuesday – Olajire
The Super Eagles on Monday, began preparation in Rabat, Morocco ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Constantine on Friday .
Ademola Olajire, Director of Communication and Media, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said this in a statement in Abuja.
He said Coach Gernot Rohr had replaced injured midfielder Ogenyi Onazi with defender Kenneth Omeruo.
Olajire said that Girona FC of Spain forward and Olanrewaju Kayode would take the place of Moses Simon who had been knocked out by injury.
He said all the technical crew and backroom staff arrived in Rabat on Sunday, alongside four players: Ahmed Musa, Wilfred Ndidi, Mikel Agu and goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
Others in Rabat he said were:Oghenekaro Etebo, Alex Iwobi, Olanrewaju Kayode, Henry Onyekuru, Chidiebere Nwakali, Kelechi Iheanacho, Uche Agbo and Chidozie Awaziem arrived in Casablanca Monday and were immediately driven to Rabat.
He said less than an hour after the crew of Etebo and seven others landed, Turkey-based defender Kenneth Omeruo and Israel-based John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme also arrived at the Mohamed V Airport, Casablanca.
Olajire said the players were also immediately driven to Rabat where the team was quartered at the Golden Tulip Farah.
He quoted team’s administrator, Dayo Achor as confirming that the team Captain Mikel Obi, and goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi, were expected in Rabat on Tuesday.
Olajire said the Super Eagles, with the Russia 2018 World Cup ticket already in their kitty, would fly to Constantine to face the Fennecs at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui on Friday at 8.30 p.m, Algerian time.
He said the team would on Saturday fly aboard a chartered flight to Krasnodar, the Russian city that would host Tuesday’s international friendly against Argentina.
