APGA thanks Anambra electorate
The All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA (APGA) has expressed gratitude to the electorate in Anambra for voting massively for the party and its candidate, Chief Willie Obiano, on Saturday.
Obiano emerged victorious in the Nov. 18 governorship election, which will see him being in office as governor for a second term.
Addressing newsmen at Amawbia, near Awka, the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye, said the victory recorded by Obiano was overwhelming and unprecedented in the history of the state.
Obiano won in all the 21 local government areas of the state with a total of 234,071 votes.
His closest rival, MrTony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress, polled 98,752 votes.
Oye, who attributed the victory to the understanding of the people and the performance of the governor, said Obiano’s victory at the poll was a victory for everyone.
He said that the rancour in the opposition encouraged his party to work very hard, which culminated in the tremendous victory.
“They said they were singing the non-dimitis of APGA, but we have set up a record that nobody can surpass.
“APGA is in a journey for more victories in seven other states,” the national chairman said.
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security agencies and the media for operating effectively during the election.
According to him, Anambra has created a template for Nigerian elections and has now become a reference point in the country.
“APGA remains the only party with clear-cut ideology in the country,” Oye said.
