UCH has manpower to run stand-alone cancer centre – Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday said he was confident that the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan could run a stand-alone cancer centre.
Obasanjo, who was represented by Chief Femi Majekodunmi, an Egba High chief, said this at the 60th Anniversary Lecture of UCH Ibadan held at the Emeritus Professor Oladipo Ogunlesi Hall.
He said “I am aware that UCH Ibadan has been designated as the Cancer Centre of Neurological Sciences and this institution has the manpower to run a stand-alone cancer centre.
“In soliciting for support for this laudable project, it will be worth it because a cancer centre is not in the building or equipment but the bulk of the requirement of a cancer centre is its manpower,”
Obasanjo said that at 60 years, UCH Ibadan had truly led other health care institutions in top class health care delivery, real cutting-edge research and training by every professional group in the health sector.
According to him, the hospital should come up with robust plan that will see it transcend mediocrity and attain a more enviable position in world rankings.
He congratulated the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, the management and staff of UCH on the auspicious occasion.
