Minister warns unity schools principals against corrupt practices

Prof. Anthony Anwukah, the Minister of State, Education, has warned principals of Federal Government Colleges against engaging in corrupt practices.

Anwukah gave the warning at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Principals of Federal Government Colleges in Kano on Monday.

The minister, who was represented by the Director, Human Resources, Alhaji Auwal Koko, warned that any principal found engaging in corrupt practices, would be removed from the office.

“Manage the resources in a transparent and accountable manner because the ministry will not hesitate to take action against any corrupt principal.”

He said the warning became necessary because the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had zero tolerance for corruption.

He advised principals to ensure accountability and transparency as well as prudent management of scarce resources in running the affairs of their respective colleges.

He further urged the principals to use their wealth of experience to provide solutions to the numerous problems bedevilling the schools.

The minister attributed the poor condition of the colleges to the inability of most principals to provide the needed leadership.

He, however, stressed the need for the principals to address issues on indiscipline, truancy and lack of commitment among some of the teachers.

He further commended some of the principals who had made valuable contributions toward the development of their colleges and urged them to sustain the tempo.

Earlier, Mrs Lami Amodu, the Chairman, Principals of Federal Government Colleges, urged the Federal Government to focus on capacity building for the attainment of academic excellence in the schools.

Our correspondent reports that Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Alhaji Danlami Garba.

Ganduje, in his remarks expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting would promote inclusive and quality education in the schools.

The theme of the conference is “Human Capital Development: A Veritable Tool for Academic Excellence in Federal Government Colleges”.

The AGM is a forum for sharing and cross fertilisation of ideas among the principals.
