Former Chairman of Zenith bank and marketing communication guru, Sir Steve Omojafor, said the role played by the International Chamber of Commerce in restoring and entrenching corporate governance and sanity into the world business system is unmatched.
Omojafor, made this disclosure at the 2017 annual Dance and Dinner of the International Chamber of Commerce Nigeria (ICCN), held recently at the metropolitan club, Victoria Island, Lagos. Sir Steve Bamidele Omojafor, who is currently the Group Chairman, STB-McCann WestAfrica, in his keynote address, opined that the ICC has distinguished itself by being a shining example in corporate governance.
According to him, “In today’s world filled with strives, political upheavals, corruption, lack of trust, oppression of small companies by the big and mighty ones, terrorism, etc, the ICC certainly stands tall it its efforts at restoring and entrenching sanity, best practices and corporate governance into the world business system.”
Speaking on the importance of strategic communication to the growth of business, Omojafor said it can help companies and organizations understand how to effectively deliver their corporate and brand messages to the relevant audiences, stating that the world has become increasingly interconnected through new means of communication.
He further stated that the importance of effective communication in creating awareness about the essence of a business enterprise and its right positioning in the market space cannot be overemphasized. On the role of Small and Media Enterprises in economic growth, Omojafor said the Guinesses and the Unilevers of this world started as SMEs, adding that Nigeria’s economic growth is tied to SMEs.
He, however, urged business owners to celebrate failure and see it as a major ingredient of success. While delivering his welcome address, the Chairman of ICC Nigeria, Mr. Babatunde Savage, dwelled on the achievements and contribution of ICC in Nigeria and on the world stage. ‘’
The ICC, also, stimulates growth and prosperity as it supports individual government’s effort, counseling the United Nations and world leaders, like the World Trade Organisation (WTO), World Bank, G8 and G20, on trade and investments. In recognition of the importance of this world body, ICC was awarded the highest level consultative observer status with the United Nations.’’ he said.
