Beauty Pageant births in ancient Igbo land
The Face of Okpanku Pageant has been announced to hold this Christmas in an ancient town of South Eastern Nigeria. Okpanku is located in the idyllic plains of Enugu East and is comprised of seven Isiama which makes up the town.
Emmanuel Ezima the initiator of the project said the pageant was designed to be a viable platform for building and exporting talents. He opined that it is critical to create sustainable platforms that will build the women folk and help them become equal contributors to community development and nation building.
In a post in the official Facebook page of the project, Emmanuel said the vision for the pageant is to raise a generation of strong women who will project solid image, inspire hope, strong values, resilience, virtue, purpose and shine the light of social enterprise development on the great Okpanku community.
Igbos of South East Nigeria are known to travel en mass from all over the world back to the region to celebrate key events like Christmas, Easter, New Yam festival, August Meeting and so on. The pageant has thus been designed to hold annually during the Christmas celebrations so as to allow for wide participation. This maiden edition has gained traction and support across board.
