The Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr.Olawale Oluwo on Tuesday assured the residents of Ibassa Ijegun Egba, in Ojoo Local Government Area that the government would build a fire station and other facilities for the community.
Oluwo stated this during the inspection of Stallionaire depots and other depots located at Ijegun Ibassa Egba with the official of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Lagos.
According to the Commissioner, Ijegun Egba community has become known for petroleum activity because of the presence of more than 10 tank farms in the area.

“We will check on how the government will assist the resident in the provision of good road, building of fire service station and the safety of the residents because they are paying their taxes. “I will bring in more Ministry to the community to see how they can help to develop this community.
“The location of these depots have impacted negative on their living and the government cannot continue to watch them. “We will ensure that their safety is guaranteed and make sure that all their roads are reconstructed,” he said.
However, Mr Wole Ayosoyoye, the Zonal Operations Controller, DPR, urged tank farm operators to maintain safety and security of their depots during and after operations.
Ayosoyoye said the fire incident at Stallionaire depot on Jan. 24, was very unfortunate.
He said that it was quick intervention of the state fire service and other relevant agencies that saved the situation from escalating further.
The Controller said that the department would begin cluster monitoring of depots in Lagos to ensure that observe the safety measure according to the department. Ayosoyoye said that the department had set up an inquest to know the cause of the incident, adding that the inquest would give the measure to take on the depot.
