Ogun 2019: Suspected Assassins threaten opposition's families

The race for the 2019 governorship seat in Ogun State has taken a drastic turn with leading opposition figures in the State reporting various threats to life.

In what appears like a déjà vu, chieftains of the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and supporters of the party’s candidate in 2015 gubernatorial election, Prince Gboyega Isiaka (GNI) alleged that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has continuously sent assassins after their families and loved ones.

In an SOS message made available to the Press, supporters of the gubernatorial candidate raised alarm over the constant visitation of various gun wielding men to the residence of Isiaka Adekunle, the brother to the candidate and the Mobilization Director of his campaign organization; the chairman GNI’s Ogun Boarder Towns campaign team; Mr Abisoye Ajao and other members of the campaign team, were said to have made similar complaints to news reporters.

Some residents of Mr. Adekunle who spoke to our correspondent under strict condition of anonymity disclosed that some strange looking men in assault rifles invaded the neighborhood on Tuesday, February 27th demanding for the whereabout of Mr Adekunle Isiaka.

Ogun State has been known over the years to be a den for politically motivated assassination and assault. In 2010, a leading opposition figure in the State, Otunba Dipo Dina was murdered with the assailants still unknown.

Efforts to get the response of the Police proved abortive as the Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi neither responded to text messages sent to him nor returned our various calls as at the press time.
