Toke Makinwa rebukes internet trolls over failed marriage
Media personality and author, Toke Makinwa has rebuked internet trolls over her failed marriage to fitness coach, Maje Ayida.
Makinwa, on her Instagram on Wednesday, said that when her marriage crashed, she was judged by some internet rude remarks “who did not even have perfect lives.” She advised her followers and fans to be kind to people and desist from passing judgments, “as a lot of people are fighting battles that others knew nothing about.”
She explained that after the unpleasant experience, she has moved on with her life and ventured into profitable business including various endorsements and book writing. Makinwa wrote, “In my own words, invest in your glow up. For anyone out there living in the fear of being judged or misunderstood, listen – ‘Greatness is first despised before being celebrated’.
“Do you, do you over and over again and remember it’s really not that serious. I remember when my marriage broke up, I was judged by people who didn’t even have their shit together. “Years after I’ve seen some of those people go through their own battles, some even worse than I did and it taught me to be kind.
“To have compassion, to face my front; because nobody has it easy. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle that you know nothing about. “Let God alone be the judge of all of us because it’ll be a damn shame if you perfect Nancy doesn’t make heaven because you played judge here on earth”.
In 2016, she published a ‘tell-tale’ book ‘On Becoming’, chronicling her life; providing details and deep insights into her marriage and relationship with her ex-husband, Ayida. The book’s release was greeted with a lot of controversies to the point where Ayida on February 2017, filed a 100 million Naira lawsuit for defamation of character against her.
According to the book, Ayida reportedly impregnated another woman, with whom he had been cheating on Makinwa for eight years. Their marriage was dissolved in 2017, citing Ayida’s adulterous lifestyle as the major reason. Makinwa is known for her book, co-hosting ‘The Morning Drive’ on Rhythm 93.7 FM.
