Invest in women entrepreneurs, Marketing expert tells FG
A Marketing Communications Consultant, Mrs Abimbola Oligbinde, has urged the Federal Government to empower women entrepreneurs to utilise innovative solutions to solve some socio-economic challenges in the country.
Oligbinde made the plea on Thursday in Lagos at a programme marking the 2018 International Women’s Day Celebration with the theme: “Press for Progress”.
It was organised by an NGO, Youthpreneur Business Development Network (YBDN), which seeks to enhance the contributions of youths to economic development.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the International Women’s Day is an annual event marked globally on March 8 to celebrate the role of women in the society.
Oligbinde, who is the convener of the programme, said that there was need for government to scale up action and invest in the future workforce.
According to her, this will create economic opportunities for young women to impact on growth and sustainability of businesses.
She said that many young female entrepreneurs were breaking through stereotypes and creating innovative and concrete solutions to long-standing problems in the society.
Oligbinde said that government should create an enabling environment and support platforms for the entrepreneurs to transcend beyond only equipment procurement and finance.
Also, Mrs Ini Abimbola, the Chief Executive Officer, Thistle Praxis Consulting, said that women entrepreneurs should optimise on their net worth and passion to create solutions that would bridge societal challenges.
Abimbola urged the government to address various challenges inhibiting the growth and development of small and medium enterprises to aid their contribution to GDP.
In his commenting, Mr EldaDavid Samuel, the Director, NIRMALA Chellarams Centre for Entrepreneurship, University of Lagos, said that businesses should exploit opportunities provided by social media platforms to promote their businesses.
