Cultists clash: 4 killed, 2 arrested in Lagos

A 33-year-old carpenter, Shola Otije, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged cult related offences and breach of peace.

The accused, who lives at Sanyaolu Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos, is facing charges bordering on managing an unlawful society and breach of peace.

He, however, denied committing the offences.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, the accused committed the offences on Jan. 22 at 9.00 p.m. at Oworonshoki area of Lagos.

He said that the accused was on the wanted list of the police and the people of Oworonshoki community for alleged cult related offences.

“A distressed call was received by the police at Oworonshoki division by an unknown person.

“The accused was apprehended in his hideout by the police, while he was planning to unleash an attack on the members of the community.

The offences contravened Sections 42 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Akokhia, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 5 for mention.
