NAHCON commends independent hajj reporters for upholding ethics
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has commended Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) for upholding the ethics of journalism in reportage of activities of the commission during the 2017 Hajj.
The Executive Chairman of NAHCON, Abdullahi Muhammad’s message was conveyed in the commendation letter signed by his Head of Media Unit, Mrs Fatima Mustapha.
Mustapha, who issued the congratulatory letter on behalf of the chairman, also hailed the Hajj reporters for excellent coverage and congratulated the organisation for successfully producing the 2017 Edition of Hajj Magazine.
“I am directed to commend you for your resilience in upholding the ethics of journalism in your publication and for the coverage of the activities of the commission during the 2017 hajj operation.
“Similarly, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has lauded Independent Hajj Reporters for the successful production of Hajj Reporters Magazine 2017 hajj edition and for excellent coverage of hajj activities during the 2017 hajj.
“I also acknowledge the receipt of five complimentary copies of Hajj Reporters magazine and to thank the organisation for the gift,’’ Mustapha said.
She said that NAHCON appreciated the efforts of IHR for the establishment of the first online hajj dedicated news platform, which had helped to bridge information gap between the commission and intending pilgrims.
Our correspondent reports that Independent Hajj Reporters is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) comprising Muslim journalists, who seek to enlighten Nigerian pilgrims on how to perform acceptable Hajj, which is an important pillar of Islam.
The organisation works with Hajj Regulatory Agencies, Service Providers and State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards or Agencies to ensure hitch-free Hajj operations.
The organization also mobilises its members every year to monitor the level of compliance by all Hajj stakeholders within Nigeria and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
