NSCDC nabs graduate over alleged burglary in Lafia

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old university graduate (Name withheld) for alleged burglary in Lafia.

The Commandant of the corps, Mr Muhammad Mahmoud-Fari, who presented the suspect to newsmen in Lafia on Tuesday, said that the graduate of Economics was arrested on April 1.

Mahmoud-Fari said the suspect was arrested while burgling a house, whose occupants were out of town, at the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Lafia.

He said items recovered from the suspect included; plasma television, refrigerator, two stabilisers, pressing iron, standing fan, home theatre player and speakers and four bags containing clothes, among others.

“The suspect virtually swept the house empty before luck ran out on him when he came back to pick the player speakers and he was apprehended by our men following a tip-off,” he said.

The commandant said the suspect was arrested for a similar offence in 2017 and charged to court but was granted bail.

Meanwhile, the suspect told newsmen that there was a force beyond him that was pushing him to commit crime.

The second class upper graduate said that he started stealing from his second year in the university and had tried very hard to stop the act which had brought shame to him and his family, but without success.

“Whenever I go out to steal, I would always be caught, even if in a group of others.

“I need spiritual intervention because I don’t know what is happening to me,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that the command also presented five other suspects for alleged defilement and theft.

Two of the suspects were arrested for defiling two 14-year-old girls in separate locations in Lafia.

The commandant said all the suspects would soon be charged to court.
