APC in Rivers is united, says Sen. Uchendu

Sen. Andrew Uchendu of All Progressive Congress (APC), says the party is united toward winning the 2019 general election in Rivers.

Uchendu, representing Rivers West Senatorial District, expressed the view in an interview with our correspondent in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

He said that APC in Rivers was intact contrary to speculations by some political observers who believed there were internal crises in the party.

The legislator said that as long as the state working committee of the party remained intact, the party could not be said to be experiencing any form of crisis.

Uchendu explained that the recently concluded stakeholders’ meeting convened by Sen. Magnus Abe was to address existing crisis in Abe’s campaign organisation and not to address any issue at the state level of the party.

“It is clear that Sen. Abe has a gubernatorial ambition, so what the stakeholders meeting he convened did was to address the issue of disunity in his campaign organisation.

“It is wrong for anybody to refer to such meeting as representing a faction of the party,’’ he said.

Uchendu said that it was the sole responsibility of the state Party Chairman, Mr Davies Ikanya, to settle any political crisis in the state if the need arose.

“As it is today, I’m bold to say that Rivers APC is intact and if there is need for party stakeholders to be addressed, the party chairman is in the best position to handle such a meeting not Abe,’’ he said.
