CCNN donates cement worth N7m to communities in Sokoto

The Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) on Wednesday donated 2, 040 bags of cement worth N7 million to 68 communities in Wamakko Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.

Presenting the items, the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Alhaji Sada Suleiman, said the gesture was part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

He said the gesture was also aimed at assisting community development associations to facilitate execution of development projects in their respective communities.

Suleiman said the donation was to facilitate repairs on mosques, cemeteries, public wells, Islamic schools and other public structures in the benefiting communities.

According to him, each of the 68 benefiting communities was given 30 bags of cement for execution of their respective projects.

He said the company was also engaged in some community development projects like the provision of potable drinking water, electrification projects, rural roads, health-care, education, women and youth empowerment.

Suleiman said one of the priorities of the company is to complement efforts of the state government in promoting community development projects across the state.

“As a corporate organisation, we deemed it necessary to give back to the society what was given to us by supporting our host communities, ” he said.

He appealed to the benefiting communities to make the best use of the donation for the purpose intended.

Also speaking, the Chairman Wamakko LGA, Alhaji Bello Buba, expressed appreciation over the company’s efforts, recalling that the company had last week donated assorted drugs to six primary health care centres in different communities.

Buba said the company had also awarded scholarship to students from the area and commended the management for the gesture urging the benefiting communities to make judicious use of what was given to them.

The chairman enjoined parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to attend school regularly, and appealed to other corporate organisations and wealthy individuals to emulate the company’s gesture by making similar donations.
