I’ll run for presidency, says Makarfi

The former National Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sen. Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has condemned Tuesday’s twin suicide bomb attack on a mosque in Mubi, Adamawa, where many lives were lost.

Makarfi in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Mukhtar Sirajo on Wednesday in Abuja, described attack on the worshippers communing with God, as heinous, barbaric and cowardly.

“Makarfi condemns the cowardly act, the first of which was perpetrated in a mosque against worshippers communing with God.

“This was done ostensibly in the name of a religion whose respect for the sacredness of Human life is so absolute that it equates the murder of a single person with the killing of the entire mankind.

“I believe that the perpetrators are worshipping and serving the demon rather than serving God,’’ he said.

He called for a united front to confront the menace of terrorism that the perpetrators posed.

“This should include among others, digging beneath the surface into the socio-economic and even political circumstances that encourage the breeding of the monster.”

He added that government and the security agencies need to up the ante in the fight against insurgency, especially in the area of intelligence gathering and de-indoctrination.

“This is important, so that future attempts can be nipped in the bud,’’ he said.

Makarfi condoled with the families of those killed by the incident, the Mubi Emirate, the government and people of Adamawa and indeed the entire country over the “unfortunate callousness’’.

He also prayed for a speedy recovery of the injured persons.
