Edo Govt to invest N2bn in school furniture production – Obaseki

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo has said that the State Government has secured preliminary approvals for the financing of the development of a seaport in Gelegele.

Obasekin said this in a statement issued by Mr Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategies in Benin on Friday.

The governor made the disclosure when he received the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Bayelsa, Rear Admiral Saleh Usman, at the Government House in Benin.

Obaseki said: “with the feasibility study for the project almost completed, the state government has secured some preliminary approvals for financing the project.

“We anticipate that by September, government will secure additional funding arrangement, which will facilitate the actualisation of the project.”

The governor said the state would require a naval base close to the seaport as soon as the project kicked off, to provide full security.

He commended the navy for their support for the project so far, noting that the officers and men had provided security for the team of engineers working on the project site.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Usman, said the navy was ready to give the state government all the support required to actualise the Gelegele seaport project.

He noted: “the Gelegele seaport project is a gigantic one and will boost economic activities as well as create jobs in the state.

“We are looking forward to the state to give us a befitting base so that we can straighten our activities in the state,” Usman said.
