Election: NYSC urges Police to protect Corps members, expresses fear over fake kits

To mark the 45th anniversary of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), corps members serving in Jos on Wednesday conducted a free medical outreach as well as the cleaning of the State Low-Cost Market in Jos.

Mrs Olufunmi Akin-Moses, the state Coordinator, who declared open the exercises, said that the corps members were at the market to keep it clean.

She further said that the essence of the free medical outreach was to avail the less privileged access to various medical tests such as hypertension, diabetes and malaria and drugs for the treatment of various ailments.

‎According to her, cases that can not be handled during the outreach, will be referred to the appropriate health institution.

‎Akin-Moses said that the scheme had made tremendous impact since its inception, particularly in the health and education sectors.

She, therefore, charged serving corps members to ensure that they made impact via their various Community Development Service projects.

In an interview with our reporter, a trader at the market, Mrs. Simi Choji, thanked the corps members for embarking on the sanitation exercise.

Choji described the NYSC as a noble scheme which should be sustained.

Similarly, Mr Bassey Okon, a beneficiary of the ‎free medical outreach, commended the scheme, saying that it had contributed greatly to the health, education and agriculture sectors and should be sustained.
