NYSC coordinator urges corps members to imbibe spirit of entrepreneurship

Mr Kehinde Aremu, Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra, has advised corps members to imbibe the spirit of entrepreneurship, to reduce over-dependence on paid employment.

Aremu said this when he assumed office as coordinator of the scheme in Awka on Tuesday.

Our correspondent reports that Aremu took over from Mr Ebenezer Olawale, who has been posted to the national headquarters of scheme.

The new coordinator said he was going to engage the state government and other employers in the state on modalities to inculcate the entrepreneurial spirit of Anambra people in corps members serving there.

Aremu described Anambra as a unique place and headquarters of entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

“In this age of growing unemployment, I must say that the earlier the corps members began to imbibe the Anambra spirit, the better.

“Hardly will you find Anambra person crying for unemployment; the people have evolved an employment system, a self sustaining system that is working and growing the economy of the people.

“Corps members should not just come here to serve and and go; I am going to develop an interaction with the government and other employers that will lead to corps members getting acculturated with the Anambra spirit.

”Interestingly, we have a government that has vision so will ensure that our corp members align with its programme and also get the best out of our members; it is a synergy that will be robust,” he said.

The coordinator was formerly in the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics, NYSC headquarters, Abuja.

He lauded Anambra Government for the construction works going on at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Mbauku/Umuawulu in Awka South council area.

He expressed confidence that it would be completed as soon as it was economically convenient to do so.

He said the scheme would not let its guards down in terms of welfare, promising to work with the NYSC staff in the state to ensure that the society got the best out of the corps members.

“We shall not relent in ensuring their welfare; all I ask from them is to live up to the expectation of their parents, their employers and country; they should stay here, work here and imbibe the Anambra spirit which I am very passionate about.

“Anambra has been doing a lot to meet the needs of NYSC; I commend their efforts on the ongoing permanent orientation camp, I am sure by the time things ease, that project will be completed in no distant time.

“We call on employers to give our corps members engaging jobs that they are qualified to do,” he said.

Olawale, who worked as coordinator in Kebbi before being posted to Anambra in January 2017, would resume at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.
