Janet Ogundipe Fashakin Empowerment Foundation empowers thousand of Widows in Ijesaland

A Non-governmental Organization, Janet Ogundipe Fashakin Empowerment Foundation (JOFEF) has empowered over 1000 widows drawn from four local government areas in Ijesaland.

Thousand of widows and their family members recently gathered at Ijesa Sports Club, Ijebujesa to receive cash, clothings and food stuff of different kinds provided by JOFEF.

Speaking at the occasion, the benefactor and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Dr. Janet Fashakin said the motive of the empowerment programme is to support and make widows self-reliant as well as give them a fresh start.

According to her: “We have being doing this since 2008. We usually give them food stuff that include rice, semovita vegetable oil e.t.c, clothes and cash for them to start business. You know widows in our society often face with many challenges in taking care of their families. They needs to provide foods, shelter and pay children’s school fees alone with little or no support from family members.

“This is our own little way of giving back to the society and supporting the indigent”.

“Aside from helping the widows, JOFEF also gave books and other educational materials to pupils in Middle schools. Students in Osu, Ibokun, Okebode, Isoko and Ilesa benefited from this programme”.

Our correspondent reports that beneficiaries were drawn from Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa West and East local government areas of Osun State.

The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Aromolaran commended Dr Janet Fashakin for her kind gesture.

The traditional ruler who was represented by Arojo of Irojo advised other high placed people in the society to emulate Dr. Fashakin and the good works of her foundation.

Some of the beneficiaries of the foundation’s empowerment programne thanked the founder for always reaching out to the less privileged in the society.

They also praised the Foundation for selecting real widows and not just people that are widows on paper.
