We will implement law on financial autonomy for legislature, judiciary – Okowa

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has urged Asaba residents to partner with the Delta State Waste Management Board (DSWMB) to ensure good sanitation in the state capital and its environs.

Okowa made the call on Wednesday while inaugurating the 1.3 kilometer Kanayo and Obodouku Streets projects in Akwuebulu Layout, executed by the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA).

He charged the people to stop indiscriminate dumping of waste along the median of the road, adding that they should patronise the wasted disposing companies appointed by the board to clear refuse.

The governor, however, charged the state Ministry of Environment and the waste management board to brace up to the challenge of ensuring that the state remained clean.

“It is not fair to government for people to dump waste at night along the road; we must work together to make Asaba, the state capital, clean.

“You must partner with government. Pay a token to the Private Sector Participants (PSP) to clear the waste and we must guard the area to ensure that nobody dumps waste along the road.

“We are committed to changing the face of Asaba and make it befitting,” Okowa said.

He assured the people that more road projects would be executed in the area and lauded the Director-General, DSCTDA, Chief Clem Ofuani, for completing many roads projects in Asaba.

The governor said that his administration was committed to transforming the state capital.

He gave the assurance that the challenge of flooding in Asaba would become a thing of the past when the ongoing drainage projects were completed by February 2019.

On his part, Ofuani thanked the governor for giving the agency opportunity to serve, noting that the road project was awarded in March 2017.

He gave the assurance that other ongoing projects in the capital city would be completed on schedule.

A community leader in Akwuebulu, Chief Godwin Okoye, expressed gratitude to government for constructing two roads in the area.

Okoye said that Asaba had witnessed rapid development within three years of the present administration in the state, urging government not to relent in doing more projects in the city.

It was reported that the people rolled out drums to appreciate the governor and his entourage.
