The police on Friday arraigned a bus conductor, Daniel Udeze, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing seven aluminum glasses, valued at N300,000.

Udeze, 39, who resides at No. 26, Charles Akeem St., Ajegunle, Lagos, is being tried for intent to commit felony, damage and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 11 at No. 10A, Meme Araromi Eastate, Alakuko, Alagbada in Agege, near Lagos.

Eruada alleged that the accused trespassed into the compound of the complainant, Mr Samuel Olorunsomo and stole the aluminum glasses.

He also told court that the accused damaged some of the glasses in his attempt to escape with the stolen items.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287, 306 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

According to him, Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for any offender found guilty of the offence.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court thereafter, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Granting the bail, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, ruled that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.

Dan-Oni adjourned the case until July 9 for mention.
