NYSC harps on the spirit of unity among corps members
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Monday has said that corps members should dwell on the spirit of unity among themselves.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Director, Protocol, Mr Eddy Megwa in Issele-uku,Delta, during the 2018 NYSC D G Sports and Cultural Festival Zonal Preliminaries Opening ceremony.
Megwa said that the competition was one of the important programs the NYSC uses to engage corps members in order to Foster greater unity and showcase their talents.
He said that the essence was to make corps members leverage on the relationship they made in camp.
He said that the competition was to scan for talent that the beauty of it was that the competitors we’re flagging their state of deployment and not state if origin.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr Omotade Benjamin has charged the leaders of participating states who are staffs of NYSC to encouraged their corps members to see the event as an avenue to show themselves as ambassadors of the state they represent and NYSC at large.
Omotade said that they should put up the spirit of sportsmanship and avoid irresponsible or undisciplined behavior.
He said that the winners from the Zonal Preliminaries in any of the competition would represent their state in the finals at Abuja.
He enumerated the seven participating states as Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Kogi, Edo and Ogun.
He said the the states would compete in Football (male), Volleyball (female), Athletic, Drama, Dance and Comedy.
He expressed his appreciation to the government of Delta for their continuous support to NYSC and the donation of trophies.
Responding, the governor of Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa said that the state believe so much in sports.
Okowa who was represented by the state sports commission Chairman, Mr Tony Okowa said that the competition was a way of fostering unity.
He urged the corps members to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.
He also pledged the state continuous support and active participation in NYSC programs.
The competition kicked off with a football match between Kogi and Anambra, Volleyball game between Edo and Bayelsa and dance presentation from Benue.
