CVR: INEC urges electorate to register before August in Cross River

INEC inaugurates committee to monitor parties’ campaign spending

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has called on eligible voters in Cross River, to register before Aug. 17, to enable them vote in the 2019 general poll.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in the state, Dr Briyai Frankland, made the call in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, in Calabar.

He said the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across the country, would be suspended on Aug. 17, adding that eligible voters who failed to register before then, would not be able to register until after the 2019 election.

“The decision to suspend the CVR, followed consultations and recommendations from stakeholders.

“It is also in consideration of the statutory obligations of the commission to end the revision, update, certification and publication of the voters’ register for the general election.

“In view of this, INEC calls on all eligible Nigerians in Cross River who are yet to register to do so on or before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, ” he said.

Briyai however said that collection of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) would continue throughout the state until one week to the 2019 poll, scheduled to commence in February 2019.

The commissioner said INEC was putting in place measures to ensure a hitch free election in the state come 2019.
