Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has approved the employment of 1, 850 basic and senior secondary school teachers to fill shortage of teachers in science subjects and create fresh employment in the state.

According to a statement from the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Dr Muyideen Akorede, on Wednesday, the approved was as a result of separate requests by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TSC).

Akorede said the two organisations based their requests on existing teacher shortages in the state, especially in English Language and Science subjects.

He said the governor approved the recruitment of 1, 500 SUBEB teachers and 350 Senior Secondary School teachers.

Akorede added that shortage of teachers persisted in the state despite recent interventions by the state government through its Kwara State Youth Empowerment Programme (KWAYEP) and the Federal Governments N-Power Scheme.

The SSA added this shortage prompted the state Governor to grant the fresh approval for employment.

He said the governor has directed SUBEB and TSC to advertise the positions in the media.

Akorede also said the governor also directed that due process is followed in the recruitment and should spread across the 193 wards in the state.
