The Leading Presidential Candidate in this week’s 6th Triennial Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo has dispelled online media reports that he has been sacked by ThisDay Newspapers following alleged discrepancies in his credentials.

Some online platforms had reported Isiguzo’s purported sack by his company, ThisDay Newspapers. The presidential candidate is presently the Company’s Bureau Chief for the South East Zone. A document made available to Metrostarng shows that Isiguzo’s alleged sack was reversed within three hours as sources close to the company disclosed that the management was misled into taking the action following pressures from quarters which they refused to disclose.

“I can authoritatively tell you that the young man remains our staff. Yes, we issued him with a letter but when we got additional information, very reliable one at that, we immediately reversed the decision. Chris still works with us and we wish him well in his election in Abeokuta, ” a top management staff of ThisDay disclosed.

But, in a release by Isiguzo’s Rescue Mission Campaign Organisation and signed by the Director General, Ali Atabor, the embattled candidate said he remained unruffled as was ready to getting the end of the struggle.

“It has come to the notice of Rescue Mission Organization (RMO), about desperate ploy by our political opponents, who, staring defeat in the face, have untiringly resorted to campaign of calumny against Comrade Chris Isiguzo, a front line presidential candidate in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) triennial delegates conference in Abeokuta.

“The latest gambit being to inundate the social media space with fairytale of Comrade Isiguzo being sacked from Thisday Newspapers. They have equally contracted social media Tigers to continue to regurgitate the same old story of ‘certificate forgery’, which was anchored on a sponsored petition to the Credentials Committee, and which the Committee duly dismissed for lack of proof.

“It is indeed unimaginable the extent some desperados can go to avoid being disgraced at the polls. But it is inescapable!
“Like we said in our earlier statement on this issue, which we still maintain; we are focused on the ball, we refuse to be distracted until after our triennial delegates conference. We have taken judicial notice of all the people involved, the sponsored petitioner and the various social media outlets being used for the hatchet job. We have equally briefed our lawyers, who will do the needful at the appointed time.

“Just as every of such devious efforts made disqualify Comrade Isiguzo failed before, this one has equally kissed the dust.
“NUJ must be rescued, and we remain committed to our programme of action and message of hope which we took time to market to our people across the country, and which they have enthusiastically embraced.
“We, therefore, once again urge our teeming supporters to discountenance all the dirty media campaigns in their unwavering commitment to bring positive change to our Great Union. This quantum of desperation is indeed a sign of victory. Let’s meet and defeat them at the polls!

“For avoidance of doubt, Comrade Chris Isiguzo as of today remains a staff of Thisday Newspapers. Besides our Constitution is very clear on matters of employer/employee relationship. “By the grace of Almighty God, no amount of sponsored media mudslinging shall STOP our victory dance on October 4th 2019,” the statement noted.
