Dambazau reiterates FG’s commitment to welfare of paramilitary agencies

The Minister of Interior, Gen. Adulrahaman Dambazau, on Monday reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government towards improving the working condition of paramilitary agencies in the country.

Dambazau, represented by Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Bassey, stated this while inaugurating the new office complex of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Abia Command in Umuahia.

He said that paramilitary agencies played a crucial role in the security and development of the nation.

He added that this had raised the need for the Federal Government to expedite action to provide working condition conducive for paramilitary agencies.

He said that the Federal Government had initiated a number of steps that would be used to provide good working condition for paramilitary agencies in order to boost their productivity.

According to him, the Federal Government has been doing a lot to put in place adequate working environment for members of the paramilitary.

Dambazau urged the Abia command of the service to uphold the programmes and policies of the Federal Government on immigration duties through its operations in the state.

He commended the state government for its support to the operations of the service and appealed for increased support in the future ventures of the service.

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia expressed the readiness of the state government to partner NIS in promoting economic development in Abia.

The governor, represented by Mr Aham Uko, described NIS as an important valve in facilitating the ease of doing business and growing indigenous companies in Abia.

“I commend the agency’s ingenuity in checking the influx of illegal immigrants, who are technicians but pretend to be engineers at the expense of our engineers.

“We appreciate the stringent circumstances under which you are doing it and the sacrifice of the service is worthwhile towards making the nation a better place,” Ikpeazu said.

Earlier, the Comptroller-General of NIS, Mr Muhammad Babandede, stressed the need for partnership with government at all levels, adding that the agency would ensure good control of immigration.

Babandede called on officers of the Abia command to make good use of the edifice and urged them to work with other paramilitary agencies in the state to deliver better services in Abia.
