Maku commends voters for peaceful conduct, urges INEC, Security to be neutral

Mr Labaran Maku, former Minister of Information and Governorship Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa state has denied stepping down from the race.

Mr Nawani Aboki, the Director-General (DG) of Maku Campaign Organisation, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lafia.

Aboki was reacting to rumours that the former minister had jettisoned his governorship ambition.

He described the rumours as “false and misleading”, and urged the teeming supporters of Maku to ignore such lies.

“The attention of the Campaign Organisation has been drawn to certain rumours been peddled around Nasarawa state that Maku has concluded plans to withdraw from the 2019 governorship election in the state.

“The organisation wishes to inform the general public that the rumours are not only false and misleading, but ultimately only exist in the dubious imagination of the peddlers,” he said.

According to Aboki, Maku remains the only frontline candidate in the forthcoming governorship election and would never consider withdrawing from the race.

He, however, accused the opposition parties of peddling the rumour, alleging that they are apparently gripped by the fear of failure in the forthcoming poll.

He advised those spreading the rumour to desist forthwith, and urged them to concentrate on the issues that must drive the 2019 election in the state.

Aboki explained that Maku’s campaign focuses on peace, security, development and empowerment, which are critical to the survival of the state.

He advised other candidates to focus on issue-based campaign and abstain from spreading fake news.
