Unemployed man docked over alleged theft of 6 truck batteries
An unemployed man, Sodiq Ahmed, on Monday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing six truck batteries valued at N660, 000.
Ahmed, 34, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others at large on Jan. 2, at 5:25a.m. at Eko Bridge, Lagos.
Okoliko said that the accused stole the six truck batteries, property of Dangote Company Nigeria Ltd.
“He was caugt by some security guard, who handed him over to the police,” he said.
Okoliko said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Our correspondent reports that Section 287 stipulates a three -year jail term, while Section 411 carries two years imprisonment for offenders.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-williams, granted the accused bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Folarin-williams said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned until Feb.19 for mention.
