Elections: 73.5% of registered voters in Oyo have PVCs – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says a total of 2,176,352 voters have collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in Oyo State.
Mr Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, told our reporter in Ibadan on Thursday that the figure represented 73.5 per cent of the total number of 2,934,107 registered voters in the state.
He, however, said that 786,294 PVCs, representing 26.5 per cent, were still in the custody of the commission.
Agboke added that the unclaimed PVCs would be kept in the custody of the Central Bank of Nigeria until after the general elections.
The REC urged all eligible voters with their PVCs to come out on Saturday to exercise their civic responsibility by voting for candidates of their choices.
Agboke admonished those without PVCs to steer clear of the polling units and voting points.
He also said accreditation and voting would commence simultaneously at 8 am and end at 2 pm.
The REC, however, said voting would not stop until the last person on the queue had voted.
Agboke implored the electorate to shun violence and abide by the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the elections.
He assured all eligible voters in the state of adequate security before, during and after the elections.
