Police ready for elections in Niger – CP
The Niger Police Command says it is ready to provide security in the 25 councils of the state for the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Feb. 23.
CP Sabo Ibrahim, Niger Commissioner of Police, made this known in Minna on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the preparedness of the command ahead of Saturday’s election in the state.
Ibrahim said that security agencies in the state were working to ensure crisis-free polls in the state.
He explained that already, an effective operational order on how to provide security at each of the polling units across the state had since been issued to the officers deployed for that purpose.
He said that the command had taken concrete security measures to ensure a peaceful political atmosphere before, during and after the elections.
“We have mobilised sufficient armed personnel to provide security before, during and after the elections,” he said.
The commissioner also said that the command and other security agencies had put in place various security measures to guarantee peaceful political atmosphere in the state.
”I am giving 100 percent assurance to all law-abiding residents in Niger, that they can go about freely to exercise their franchise on Feb.23, without threat to lives and property.
He explained that the security measures in place would enable eligible residents to participate in all electoral processes.
”We have put in place various security methods to enable residents have the opportunity to participate in electing leaders of their choice without threat to lives and property,” Ibrahim said.
The commissioner advised leaders of political parties in the state to impress it on their supporters to shun all forms of violence and thuggery before, during and after the elections.
Ibrahim said: “We will not tolerate any act capable of bringing confusion before, during and after the elections.
He warned that any person or groups found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted.
