Tinubu hails INEC over peaceful, transparent polls in Lagos

Sen. Oluretimi Tinubu has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Lagos state, describing the exercise as peaceful and transparent.

Tinubu made her impression about the exercise known in an interview with our reporter after casting her vote at Boudillon in Lagos on Saturday.

She said: “I am proud and elated with the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and the way the voting was conducted.

“We can see that the election is quite peaceful and orderly around here.

“When the election was postponed, I said it is better for them to do a good job than something shoddy because we know APC is going to win by God’s grace.

“But if the election had taken place as earlier scheduled with the spate of violence all over the place, they would have alleged we rigged the election.

“This election process is good. That is why we said that the best man should win at the end of the day,’’ Tinubu said.

She further expressed joy over the increase in the number of registered voters in the area from 200 to at least 800.

She described the development as a proof that Nigerians had become more interested in good governance.

She pledged her continued commitment toward offering selfless service to her constituents.

She said that her third term bid was in response to the popular request by leaders in her constituency.

“My third term bid is as a result of the request from the leadership of my constituency and not something I really pushed for.

“Right now, I have about three charitable organisations through which I offer service to my people,’’ the lawmaker said.

She advised political leaders to always listen to the needs and aspirations of their people in order to succeed.
