Buhari wins big in Borno, Sokoto

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday declared President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC), the overwhelming winner of Saturday’s presidential election in Borno.

The Collation Officer for the election in Borno, Prof. Saminu Ibrahim, who is the Vice Chancellor, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, announced the result at the National Collation Centre in Abuja.

Ibrahim said that Buhari polled 836,496 votes to defeat his opponents.

He said that Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, scored 71,788 votes, while Donald Duke of Social Democratic Party (SDP) got 322 votes, to come out third.

According to him, Obadiah Mailafia of African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 301 votes.

Mr Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress (AAC) polled 269 votes and Yabagi Yusuf of African Democratic Party (ADP) got 75 votes.

He said that total number of registered voters in Borno was 2,319,434 out of which 987,290 were accredited.

The collation officer announced that total votes cast in the poll stood at 955,205 with 919,786 valid votes, while 35,419 were rejected.

Similarly, INEC has also announced that President Buhari won the election in Sokoto.

According to Prof. Muhammad Bello, the Collation Officer for the state at the National Collation Centre, Abuja, Buhari polled 490,333 votes to defeat his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent, Atiku Abubakar, who scored 361,604 votes.

He said that Mr Donald Duke of Social Democratic Party (SDP) came third with 301 votes.

Bello said that the state had 1,895,266 registered voters and that 950,107 of them were accredited for the election.

He added that the total votes cast in the polls were 925,940 with 54,049 rejected.
