Heavy security as INEC collates results in Lagos

Senate passes Police Reform Bill

No fewer than 100 security operatives were deployed to the INEC Office in Yaba, Lagos, on Sunday as the collation of Saturday’s governorship election results continue.

Our correspondent reports that heavily armed policemen took positions at the office entrance on Birrel Road, where it is located.

The operatives screened people moving in and out of the area.

Some others stood by Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and stationary patrol vans, keeping watch.

Opposite the INEC office, no fewer than 10 operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in their usual red jackets, were sitting on a parked white bus.

Some men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the police, as well as personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were seen moving around to guard against any threat to peace.

Some personnel of the Nigerian Army were also seen standing at alert at an army barracks near the INEC office.

It was reported that results of the governorship election from no fewer than 15 LGAs have been announced at the office, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) leading.

The Returning Officers for Badagry, Alimosho, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ajeromi -Ifelodun and Ojo were getting set to announce the results for the local governments areas as at 3.00p.m.

Journalists and agents of the various political parties were waiting patiently for the announcement of the final result.
