Niger customs command generates N814m revenue in 3 months — Comptroller

Customs opens portal to recruit 3,200 officers – Official

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger State Command, said on Thursday that it generated N814 million revenue between January and March.

Its Comptroller, Abbah Kassim, made this known in an interview with our reporter in Minna.

Kassim also said that the command seized goods worth N15 million in different parts of the area command, comprising Niger, Kogi, and Kwara states.

The comptroller said that the command had taken various security measures in order to tackle all forms of smuggling in the area.

He said that the area command had issued an order to officers deployed in border posts of Tungan Madugu, Kibira and Agbara Rofiya in Borgu Local Government area of Niger to ensure compliance.

“The order was also sent to officers in border posts in Chikanda, Yashikira, Kuso Boso in Barutem Local Government Area of Kwara.

“We are fully prepared to end smuggling through our various strategies that will pave way for arrest and prosecution of smugglers,’’ the comptroller said.

Kassim said the area command had already adopted a community-based approach to the fight against smuggling.

He said that the approach would enable residents of the state, especially those at the border areas, to offer intelligence reports that could lead to the arrest of smugglers.

“We have also reached out to youths in the border communities to assist our field officers with required intelligence information that will assist in curbing all forms of smuggling activities,’’ the comptroller said.
