CAN urges FG to stop hasty implementation of death sentence on 5 Christians

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged leaders of Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) to be God-fearing and serve the people with diligence and humility.

President of CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja, at the inauguration of new executive of the association.

He said “if you serve the women diligently, the women in return will serve you to the end. In all your programmes make sure you carry the women along.

“Respect every person under your leadership; don’t forget you are like them before God made you all leaders. What can you give back to God always? Have this in the back of your minds.

“Never leave or abandon God; be full of humility and never be full of yourself. Pride changes angels into devil,” he said.

The cleric stated that as humans, we should always cultivate the habit of thanksgiving in every situation, no matter how little.

He told the women that no matter their domination, they should be steadfast and understand that God would answers their prayers and give them the ability to be good leaders.

He advised them to be submissive to their husbands, as even in worship, their husbands remained the head over them.

In her speech, President of WOWINCAN, Mrs Victoria Ihesiulor, urged women to always look in the direction of Christ as good example to follow.

She encouraged the new officers of the association to use their God-given talents and blessings for others and to, at all times, promote religious harmony in their locality.

Mrs Mabel Sowoolu, the outgoing president of the group, advised the new national executive to use the position to showcase their leadership qualities.

Sowoolu urged them to lead by example, respecting elders and showing love to one another.

“They should carry the younger ones along and also avoid hate speech that will stain the relationship among them.

“They should avoid looking down on themselves; they should note that women are nation builders. We have certain qualities.

“We use to preach peace but not just to preach it but we need to show it. You do not give what you do not have. So we must live in peace with one another.

“They should also make Christ their focus, not just say they want to lead, but they have to work harder.

“They should also have it in their minds that when you are climbing up, you will definitely come down and meet those people you underrated. So they should be mindful of what they say,” she said.
