Onu reiterates FG’s commitment to support inventions
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu on Tuesday in Abuja reiterated the ministry’s commitment to support and encourage inventions in the country.
Onu said this during the presentation of fire proof crystal ceiling board made of fiber glass and raisin by an inventor, Mr Rowland Iwu.
The minister said “the ministry is devoted, dedicated and working hard to encourage Nigerians who are innovating products and services that can help create jobs and grow the country’s Gross Domestic Products (GDP)’’.
He further assured of the ministry’s commitment to ensure that inventors benefit from their efforts as a way of attracting others to go into inventions.
Onu, however, emphasised that the ministry’s support to inventors in terms of finances or provision of equipment to boost research and innovations would be competitive.
“A committee in the ministry will go around all the geo- political zones in the country to inspect and recommend inventions that deserve encouragement,’’ he said.
He urged the organised private sector to work with the inventor of the fibre glass ceiling board with a view to commercialising it.
“It will serve as a major contribution to the housing industry.
“We need to build good houses for our people with quality materials for comfort and aesthetics.
“I hereby call on the private sector to take advantage of the invention either by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or buy the technology from the inventor.’’
Earlier, Iwu solicited the support of the ministry to scale up his inventions.
He also requested to be recorgnised for inventing a fibre glass ceiling board which he described as fire proof and does not rot.
