Trump threatens to release IS prisoners to Europe if no return deal
U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday warned European states to take back their citizens who went to fight in Syria for Islamic State or face the prospect of seeing captured fighters simply released back to Europe.
Trump made this known to reporters outside the White House.
“We have thousands of ISIS fighters that we want Europe to take and let’s see if they take them and if they don’t take them we will probably have to release them to Europe,” Trump said.
The prisoners are being held by the U.S.’ Kurdish-led allies in Syria.
