Teenager docked for alleged phone theft in examination hall
A teenager, Alade Mujeed, was on Monday arraigned in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun for allegedly stealing an Infinix Hot5 mobile phone worth N35,000 in an examination hall.
The 18-year-old is standing trial on a two-count charge of entering and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 13 at about 12:00 p.m. at Oduduwa College Examination Hall, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant entered the examination hall with intent to commit felony therein.
He added that the defendant opened the bag of one Giwa Samuel and stole the phone.
According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 383, 390(9) and 413 of the Criminal Code of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Kehinde Adegbite, prayed the court to grant bail to his client in the most liberal terms.
The counsel pledged that his client would not jump bail, but would provide substantial sureties.
The Magistrate, Joseph Owolawi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Owolawi added that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He said the surety’s address must be verified in addition to providing three recent passport photographs.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Jan. 7, 2020, for hearing.
