Akinkugbe left lasting legacy on Nigeria’s health sector, academia – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family of Emeritus Professor of Medicine, Oladipo Akinkugbe, over the demise of the renowned medical practitioner and academic.
The president, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Tuesday, said that through diligence and humility, Akinkugbe had left a lasting legacy on Nigeria’s health sector and the academia.
He noted that the late professor contributed immensely to the study of medicine in the country.
Akinkugbe had served variously as Pro-Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt; Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and the University of Ilorin as well as Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
Buhari joined the Nigerian Medical Association, the government and people of Oyo State, and the members of staff of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan in mourning the renowned scholar.
The late professor had studied and taught at some of the world’s most prestigious universities, including the University of London, Balliol College, University of Oxford, England and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
According to the president, Akinkugbe will be remembered for his pioneering roles and contributions to the medical sector, especially the distinguished leadership he provided as Chairman of the Board of Management of UCH and JAMB.
He prayed God to accept the soul of the departed, and comfort his family.
