Applicant docked for allegedly escaping from police custody

An applicant, Ibrahim Shuaibu, on Friday appeared in a Grade I Area Court, Mpape, Abuja, for allegedly escaping from police custody.

The police charged Shuaibu, who lives in Gwari village Mpape, Abuja with with two counts of escape from lawful custody and mischief.

The Judge, Salihu Ibrahim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one reasonable and reliable surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Feb.15 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, M.A Maaji said that the defendant was arrested in 2019 for house breaking and theft.

He said the defendant escaped while being transported to the station.

The offence, Maaji said, contravened the provisions of sections 172 and 327 of the Penal Code.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
