Court dissolves 6-year-old marriage on grounds of abandonment

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Friday dissolved a six-year-old marriage of a civil servant, Adedoyin Ayilola, on grounds of abandonment by her husband, Ayoade.

Ayilola who works in Abeokuta, in her petition, also accused Ayoade of starving her sexually.

Deliving judgment, the President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade pronounced the marriage dissolved.

Odunade granted custody of their only child to Ayilola and ordered Ayoade to pay N5,000 as the child support monthly.

In her petition, said said:” my lord, Ayoade abandoned me to my fate when I took ill. He avoided touching me, when I needed to love.

“He sleeps in the living room and never cared about me. He is not a reliable partner,” she said.

Ayoade consented to the divorce and did not deny the allegation leveled against him.

“I stopped going near her because I was equally not feeling well at the time.

“Because of her illness too, I did not want to disturb her. She sent me a text message telling me that she was no longer interested in the marraige,” he said.
