POS operator in court for allegedly absconding with employer’s N510,000

A 26-year-old operator of Point of Sale (POS), Adams Adinoyi in a Karu Grade I Area Court for allegedly absconding with his employer’s N510,000.

The police charged Adinoyi with two counts of theft and attempt to commit offence.

He however denied committing the crime levelled against him.

The prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju told the court that the complainant, Gladys Areoze (the employer), reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on April 14.

The complainant, he said, entrusted N510,000 to the defendant whom she employed to manage her POS shop located in Kurudu, Abuja.

Adeyanju said on April 14, she discovered that the defendant had locked up the shop and absconded o an unknown destination with her N510,000.

During police investigation, he said, the defendant voluntarily admitted to stealing the money and confessed that he squandered the money in playing ‘NaijaBet’.

The defendant, he said, voluntarily handed over N81,000, part of the money to the police.

Adeyanju informed the court also that the defendant disclosed to the police that out of frustration, he had once attempted suicide by drinking sniper, but quickly took milk and red oil before he was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 289 and 95 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N600,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until July 19, for hearing.
