Police arraign sales rep. over alleged N1.8m misappropriation

A 35-year-old sales representative, Lawal Abba, was on Monday, arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court over alleged misappropriation ‎of N1, 840,000.

The defendant, who resides in Kawo Kaduna, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.

The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that one Nura Zamfara of Hayin Bakin, Kaduna State reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station on July 10.

Leo said that sometimes in 2019, the complainant entrusted his shop located at Kawo Kaduna, to the defendant where he sells all kinds of bicycles.

The prosecutor said the defendant used his position as the sales representative and misappropriated the sum N1, 840,000 without the authorisation of the complainant.

He said the offence contravened Sections 296 and 306 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Musa Ibrahim, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He, thereafter, adjourned the matter till Aug. 2 for hearing.
