APC chieftain condemns killing of Akunyili
Chief Elvis Agukwe, a Chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo, on Thursday condemned the killing of Dr Chike Akunyili, widower of the late Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili.
Agukwe told our reporter in Abuja that the killing was unfortunate and called for a thorough and uncompromising investigation.
“The brutal killing of Dr Akunyili is highly regrettable and condemnable. Killers must be brought to book.
“Their real intentions must be revealed. I am still investigating why the man was killed. Is it an accidental death or deliberate,” he queried.
Agukwe, who expressed concern over the spate of killings in Nigeria, especially in the South-East, wondered why the unnecessary murdering of innocent people.
He called for the restoration of sanity in all the states of the federation, especially in Anambra.
According to him, it truly seems that the once touted solid security achievements of Gov. Obiano has collapsed.
“I recommend a jaw-jaw to discuss the breakdown of security. We cannot afford to be ruled by the mob.
“Let sanity reign in our states. As I said before, leaders should not be undue targets in our clime. Those behind this dastardly act should have a rethink,” he said.
It was reported that Akunyili was shot dead on Sept. 28 at Nkpor, Anambra, after he received a posthumous award on behalf of his late wife.
